J. David Hitchcock, Esq. is a Shareholder in the Los Angeles office of Buchalter and is a member of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice Group. Mr. Hitchcock’s practice focuses on real estate acquisitions and dispositions, loan originations, loan workouts and restructurings, loan sales, secured real estate finance, joint ventures, and general real estate matters. Recently, Mr. Hitchcock has represented clients acquiring real property to rezone and lease for cannabis production. He has extensive experience representing clients in all areas of the real estate market – private equity funds, real estate developers, core and value-add real estate owners/operators, public school districts, as well as publicly traded REITs.

Before returning to the practice of law in 2011, Mr. Hitchcock was with Colony Advisors, LLC where he was a Vice President of Asset Management and in charge of a $1 billion portfolio of distressed commercial real estate mortgages and non-performing real estate collateral. Prior to Colony, Mr. Hitchcock ran his own real estate development and mortgage brokerage company.

Mr. Hitchcock is a member of the State Bar of California, the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the USC Law and Business Forum program committee. Mr. Hitchcock is also actively involved in a number of community organizations. He volunteers at Hillsides Home for Children and helped form Pasadena Education Network, a non-profit organization formed to promote family participation in public education in Pasadena, California.

Richard Ormond, Esq. has over 20 years-experience that includes business law, real estate, banking, receivership law, cannabis regulations, commercial litigation, and restructuring. He has tried cases in State Court, Federal Court and Bankruptcy Court and he has arbitrated dozens of matters.

Mr. Ormond serves as the President of the California Receivers Forum and he is the former Chair of the Remedies Division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Ormond also teaches Continuing Legal Education courses on high-yield debt issues, cannabis regulations, receivership law and securitization of intellectual property.

In 2018 Mr. Ormond was nominated for the prestigious “Leader in Law” award by the Los Angeles Business Journal and he was previously selected as one of “Los Angeles’ Top 100 Lawyers.” He is repeatedly recognized as a “Super Lawyer” and he was recently selected as one of the “Top Cannabis Law Experts in the United States” by Databird Research Journal.

Aaron Elster, Esq. represents developers, lenders, investors, landlords, and tenants on a variety of real estate transactions, including purchase & sale, mortgage financing, construction lending, leasing, and construction agreements. He also provides counsel on tax planning and controversy. His clients range from high net worth individuals to Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Elster’s clients also include those in the cannabis sector.

Prior to joining Buchalter, Mr. Elster worked as commercial tax associate in an international accounting firm and in-house for a major Los Angeles developer.

Accreditation Policy
myLawCLE seeks accreditation for all programs in all states. (Accreditation for paralegals sought thru NALA and NFPA paralegal associations.) Each attending attorney/paralegal will receive a certificate of completion following the close of the CLE program as proof of attendance. In required states, myLawCLE records attorney/paralegals attendance, in all other states attorney/paralegal is provided with the approved CLE certificate to submit to their state bar or governing association.

    Automatic MCLE Approvals

All myLawCLE CLE programs are accredited automatically either directly or via reciprocity in the following states: AK, AR, CA, CT, FL, HI, ME, MO, MT, ND, NH, NM, NJ, NY, WV, and VT. (AZ does not approve CLE programs, but accepts our certificates for CLE credit.)

    Live Video Broadcasts

Live video broadcasts are new live CLE programs being streamed and recorded for the first time. All of these programs qualify for “Live” CLE credit in all states except NV, OH, MS, IN, UT, PA, GA, SC, and LA —these states require in-person attendance to qualify for “Live” CLE credit.

    “Live” Re-Broadcasts

“Live” Re-broadcasts are replays of previous recorded CLE programs, set on a specific date and time and where the original presenting speakers calls in live at the end of the event to answer questions. This “live” element allows for “live” Re-broadcast CLEs to qualify for “Live” CLE credits in most states. [The following states DO NOT allow for “live” CLE credits on re-broadcast CLEs: NV, OH, MS, IN, UT, PA, GA, SC, and LA]

Many states allow for credit to be granted on a 1:1 reciprocal basis for courses approved in another mandatory CLE jurisdiction state. This is known as a reciprocity provision and includes the following states: AK, AR, HI, CT, FL, ME, MO, MT, ND, NH, NM, VT, NJ, NY, and WV. myLawCLE does not seek direct accreditation of live webinars or teleconferences in these states.
