Program Summary

On September 13, 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 587, which requires social media companies to publicly post their content moderation policies and semiannually report data on their enforcement of the policies to the attorney general. This webinar will provide an overview of this new requirement for social media platforms and discuss the recent trend across states, including New York, Texas, and Florida, which seek to regulate social media content. We will discuss how businesses can comply with these requirements as well as litigation related to these content moderation laws.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Business requirements for social media platforms under AB 587 and best practices
  • State laws moderating social media content in comparison to AB 587
  • Litigation history of content moderation laws and potential implications of Supreme Court intervention
