Utah recently passed the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), which the Governor will likely sign into law. This will make Utah the fourth state to pass consumer privacy legislation. As a result, corporations with connections to Utah will have to abide by the requirements of the UCPA. In this CLE, we will examine the differences between the UCPA and other prominent consumer privacy regulations, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), what rights the UCPA provides, the UCPA’s enforcement mechanisms, and the overall impact of the UCPA, which is poised to become a model for state privacy legislation.
