Recognition & Leadership

Jacob is a published game developer with a commercial release on Steam, Star Rift Saga, giving him a unique standing in the game development community as both a legal adviser and an active creator. This dual identity has made him a trusted voice among independent developers navigating the intersection of creative work and legal compliance.

Understanding esports law is essential for attorneys advising clients in a multi-billion-dollar industry where IP ownership, regulatory enforcement, and consumer protection obligations are rapidly evolving with real financial stakes.
$20M
FTC enforcement against Genshin Impact’s maker for selling randomized in-game purchases to minors — putting any gaming client with underage users at risk of federal consumer protection liability.
$245M
in COPPA-based penalties imposed on Epic Games for privacy violations and unauthorized charges — with refunds still being distributed as recently as June 2025, proving gaming compliance failures carry nine-figure consequences.
$4.8B
in global esports revenue projected for 2025, with betting accounting for more than half — making IP licensing, wagering compliance, and regulatory risk core issues in virtually every major esports transaction.
0.03%
of 100,000 esports matches monitored in 2025 were flagged for suspected match-fixing — still resulting in formal suspensions and sanctions, making disciplinary procedures and player due process essential knowledge for esports counsel.
