Course Overview

The late-night commercials sell the outcome — this program teaches the work

2026-10-12 09:30:00

Getting rid of tax penalties is advertised as a phone call. In practice it is a discipline: the IRS applies a range of penalties, and practitioners have several distinct ways to seek their removal. This program covers both — the penalties themselves and the pathways off of them.

The stakes sit in the details. A client who qualifies for First Time Penalty Abatement gets relief only when the practitioner recognizes that the program applies. A reasonable-cause argument supports abatement only when it is properly described. And the examination itself often sets the outcome: lay the groundwork during the audit, and penalties can be avoided rather than contested afterward.

Attendees walk out able to determine when the first-time abatement program applies, describe reasonable cause for the avoidance of penalties, and identify the opportunities to avoid penalties that arise during an IRS examination — a working toolkit for the penalty questions clients actually bring.
