Before a Notice of Award arrives, attorneys must prepare the file, obtain Benefit Estimates, and secure ICERS, DEQY, and SEQY records. This session addresses how to evaluate case viability, counsel clients on reduced or eliminated benefits, explain why children lose auxiliary benefits, and navigate child support complications when offsets apply.

She has represented Social Security disability claimants since 1991, injured workers since 1994, and service-connected veterans and their families since 2009. Sharmine is admitted to the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims, and the Supreme Court of the United States. She has served as a NOSSCR Second Circuit Board Member and as Co-Chair of the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Social Security Disability and Workers’ Compensation Committee.

Requirements
The Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission requires attorneys to complete 12 credits, including 1 ethics, by December 31 of each year. All credits must be reported by February 15 of the following year. A maximum of 12 credits, including 1 ethics credit, may be carried over for 1 year only.
