Why Attend

Why this
program matters

Thorough understanding of tax controversy is essential for legal practitioners because rapid IRS staffing changes, evolving enforcement priorities, and complex procedural rules directly impact case outcomes and client strategy.
27%
IRS workforce reduction from approximately 102,000 employees in January 2025 to roughly 74,000 by December 2025, fundamentally altering enforcement capacity and audit activity.
99%+
Of the 23,280 Tax Court cases closed in FY 2024, more than 99 percent were resolved through settlement or default without requiring a trial on the merits.
25%
IRS Alternative Dispute Resolution case receipts increased by 25 percent in fiscal year 2024 compared to 2023, with Fast Track Settlement cases in LB&I rising 56 percent and Post-Appeals Mediation cases increasing 110 percent.
5.1M
Approximately 5.1 million partnership returns were filed, yet the IRS closed only 5,225 partnership exams during 2024, highlighting significant enforcement gaps in this area.
