The panel provides practical guidance on mitigating unauthorized hiring risk through written I-9 policies, electronic storage protocols, internal training programs, and externally privileged law firm audits that avoid discrimination.
This topic outlines proactive compliance strategies and exact escalation protocols between legal, HR, and leadership to manage unannounced ICE doorstep arrivals and workplace raids while protecting institutional interests.
Despite heightened enforcement, sponsoring foreign nationals provides competitive advantage through business continuity planning, balancing increased petition fees against the necessity of a stable, legally authorized workforce.
Effective counsel must keep internal and external clients informed through issue-spotting frameworks bridging immigration, employment, and compliance, including client alerts, internal guidance, and ethical scope-of-practice coordination.
This session provides foundational understanding of how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act reshapes obligations across immigration, benefits, and tax reporting, clarifying evolving roles of the DOL, IRS, DHS, and ICE.
The OBBBA significantly increased immigration petition fees and ICE funding, creating aggressive new enforcement priorities and audit frequencies that directly impact I-9 compliance, sponsorship decisions, and workforce continuity.
Legislative changes expanded dependent care FSA limits, employer-provided childcare credits, and modified paid family and medical leave credits, requiring understanding of interactions between OBBBA provisions, ERISA, and the ACA.
New mandates include overtime premium deductions under the FLSA and tipped worker deductions, alongside increased reporting requirements demanding coordination between payroll, HR, and tax functions to avoid federal penalties.
The program concludes with a comprehensive issue-spotting checklist for advising employer-clients across immigration, benefits, and tax disciplines, enabling preparation of high-value memos, litigation materials, and client alerts.
