Why Attend

Why this
program matters

Understanding AI hallucinations and verification protocols is essential for legal practitioners because unverified AI outputs can result in sanctions, malpractice claims, and erosion of client trust.

Defining AI Hallucinations in Legal Practice

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

This session introduces the concept of AI hallucinations—instances where generative AI creates false facts. Attendees will learn that LLMs predict text statistically rather than logically, lacking the ability to verify truth or express uncertainty.

Understanding Why AI Hallucinations Occur

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Explore the technical reasons behind hallucinations, including how AI generates language through statistical prediction rather than factual recall. Learn why models treat citations like mathematical formulas, rolling dice to produce plausible-sounding but potentially false references.

Identifying High-Risk Scenarios for AI Errors

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

This session covers when hallucination risk increases, including extended context windows, niche practice areas, and lack of prompt engineering knowledge. Understanding these triggers helps attorneys recognize when AI outputs require heightened scrutiny.

Types of AI That Produce Hallucinations

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Examine how different AI architectures—general models, legal-specific models, RAG systems, and hybrid solutions—vary in hallucination risk. Learn why solution architecture matters more than model training for reliability.

Four Categories of Citation Failures Explained

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Explore the spectrum of AI citation errors from mildest to most severe: irrelevant citations, fake quotes, fake pin cites, and non-existent authorities. Each category carries different professional risks, with fabricated cases representing the fastest path to sanctions.

Establishing When AI Can Be Trusted

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Learn the four guardrails that transform text generators into professional-grade systems: context isolation, retrieve-before-generate protocols, deterministic verification, and human auditability. These controls determine when AI output merits reliance.

Assessing Whether the Hallucination Problem Is Fixable

Ali Mohammed

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Mark Underwood

JuristAI Legal Technology Group, Inc

Examine whether hallucinations are an inherent, unfixable property of LLMs. While raw models will likely never achieve zero error, architectural solutions—pairing deterministic retrieval with explicit detection—can prevent errors from reaching final work product.
