Program Summary

Session I - Burnout in Law: Strategies for Managing Stress and Maintaining Well-Being – Amy Boyle

This program is designed to help attorneys break free from burnout and cultivate a sustainable approach to both their legal practice and personal well-being. The session begins with a presentation on the root causes and effects of burnout, followed by practical strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and developing healthy habits to support a balanced work-life dynamic. In addition to individual wellbeing, the session will explore how attorneys can build and shape a legal practice—whether as firm leaders or individual practitioners—that prioritize health, sustainability, and long-term success.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Effective strategies for proactively managing stress
  • Core principles for building a law firm culture that prioritizes well-being
  • Innovative and non-traditional approaches to sustaining a healthy legal practice
  • Equipping newer attorneys with tools for long-term success

Session II – Sustaining Legal Careers: Strategies for a Healthier, More Productive Workplace – Kristin Tyler and Natalie C. Lehman

While individual stress management strategies are essential, long-term well-being in the legal profession requires broader cultural and systemic change. This session will explore how law firm leaders, senior attorneys, and professionals in high-pressure roles can actively shift legal workplace culture to prevent burnout, improve retention, and foster a sustainable legal career path.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Understanding burnout at a deeper level
  • Burnout prevention at the leadership level
  • Delegation & smart workflows: Reducing stress without sacrificing quality
  • The business case for well-being

Speakers

Speaker_Amy Boyle_myLawCLEAmy Boyle | MSB Employment Justice

Amy Boyle is the Managing Partner at MSB Employment Justice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After working in law firms, in 2021 Boyle and her partners founded MSB Employment Justice. Their motivation for starting a new firm was generated by a feeling there is a better way to serve clients compared to what the partners had experienced in the past working at other firms. This motivation translates to how Boyle and her partners run the law firm and manage their team. They take a non-traditional and “whole person” approach that benefits the firm, its employees, and their clients.

She handles all types of employment matters, with a particular focus on representing women who are survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sex discrimination in the workplace, ensuring they have a strong voice and a path to justice. Boyle also represents whistleblowers who expose illegal workplace practices or corporate misconduct, leveraging her deep understanding of whistleblower laws and consumer fraud to protect those who speak out. Additionally, she frequently advises high-level, long-term employees within large organizations who are navigating difficult transitions, helping them safeguard their careers, reputations, and financial futures.

Boyle is the Chair of the Federal Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and a Past Chair of the Younger Lawyers Division. A frequent speaker on the topics of employment law, discovery, trial, and diversity and inclusion, Boyle has organized and presented at many FBA events. Aside from her work with the FBA, Boyle is active with the Minnesota Women Lawyers, serving as a Board Member and the Co-Chair of its Equity Committee, and Minnesota NELA.
