Program Summary

This program will provide practical strategies for attorneys to get the most value out of their expert witnesses — from initial case consultation to trial testimony. Drawing from extensive experience in medical forensics and expert witness collaboration, the program will cover how to identify the right expert for each case, optimize communication and preparation, and avoid common pitfalls that can weaken your case. Attendees will learn how early engagement, clear expectations, and strategic preparation can enhance case outcomes and improve the attorney-expert relationship.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Initial considerations when hiring an expert: Defining needs, managing costs, and selecting the right expert for your case
  • Working effectively with forensic experts: Leveraging expert insights early to shape strategy and avoid surprises later
  • The expert’s role as educator, not advocate: How experts can clarify complex medical issues for attorneys, jurors, and judges
  • Preparing for trial: Coordinating reports, exhibits, and testimony to ensure your expert strengthens — not complicates — your argument
