Program Summary

Limited liability companies (LLCs) have become the preferred corporate structure for many businesses over the years due to their versatility, limited liability protection and less stringent corporate requirements. Because of its proliferation, LLCs can also be misused or mishandled, resulting in unintended consequences for its members. This course will address common errors seen often when dealing with LLC member interests, its consequences, and how to avoid them.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Importance of documenting ownership, transfers and assignments of LLC membership interest
  • Disadvantages to having minor children as members of LLC
  • Failing to plan for key events, like death, divorce, disability and debt
  • Distinguishing economic owners and members of LLC
