Legal work through the hybrid office plan is much more prevalent after its success during the Covid-19 pandemic. Work can be performed efficiently in a remote location. Communication is key to successful collaboration and a reliable work product.

Session II - Remote Client Communications: Effective and ethical text messaging practices for lawyers – Clare S. Roubion

The communication between a lawyer and a client is one of the cornerstones of a successful and effective representation relationship. Today much of the communication between lawyers and clients occurs through technology. Whether a lawyer is drafting a quick email or firing off a text to a client, lawyers must remain vigilant of their ethical obligations to their clients. This session will cover best practices and how the relevant Rules of Professional Conduct impact communicating with clients through text messages.

Jessica L. Mazzeo, Esquire is a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded four businesses. Jessica currently serves on the NAMWOLF Communications Committee and was also a staff volunteer for NAMWOLF from 2012-2019. She was the 2020-2021 Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Association of Legal Administrators and was also previously a volunteer for the Women’s Business Enterprise Council East from 2014 to 2021. Clare Roubion graduated cum laude from Louisiana State University in 2011, and magna cum laude from Louisiana State University Law Center in 2014, where he was inducted into Order of the Coif and served as a member of the LSU Law Review. After graduation, she worked as a public defender for the Fifteenth Judicial District Court in Lafayette Louisiana and the Research and Writing Attorney for the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Middle and Western District of Louisiana.

Clare now practices with Louisiana Legal Ethics, LLC. She is engaged in a limited law practice and in law-related consulting, principally in the areas of legal ethics, lawyer discipline, and judicial discipline. Her practice includes handling disciplinary matters before the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board and the Louisiana Judiciary Commission, legal malpractice cases, lawyer disqualification motions and lawyer fee disputes.
