Program Summary

In this CLE, we will provide a primer on artificial intelligence in terms of its technology, the current laws regulating it, and the practical considerations in using AI in businesses and transactions. AI overlays on many different types of laws and regulations due to its impact on society and technology. In this seminar, we will focus on intellectual property and data privacy laws regulating artificial intelligence. After unveiling the issues, the CLE will provide practical considerations to address technical and regulatory issues businesses may face using AI in 2024.

  • A primer on Artificial Intelligence and its challenges when used in business
  • The impact of intellectual property law, especially copyright and patent law, on the use of Artificial Intelligence
  • The development of data privacy regulations concerning automated decision-making and its impact on Artificial Intelligence

Yugo’s practice focuses on intellectual property infringement litigation in the high tech and manufacturing technology industry. He works with American and Asian companies in the IP arena. He has litigated before the U.S. International Trade Commission and Federal District Courts. He is also experienced with assisting and advising Japanese companies and foreign owned subsidiaries in the U.S. with various legal needs.

Yugo is also a member of Frost Brown Todd’s Data Services team focusing primarily on international and domestic data privacy issues involving international data transfers, GDPR compliance, U.S. federal regulations, and CCPA/CPRA compliance issues for domestic and international clients.

Yugo is a Bengoshi (Japanese Attorney) who litigated before the Tokyo District Court and Tokyo High Court. There, he represented technology companies on matters ranging from patent and trademark licensing agreements to international mergers and acquisitions.

Janelle is an associate in the Corporate Law practice group, where she assists private and publicly held companies with a wide variety of corporate transactions. She is also heavily involved in the Data, Digital Assets & Technology group, where she has co-authored several articles. She earned her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2022. Janelle completed an independent research project with a professor that led to a publication in the Boston University Law Review and was also a member of the University of Cincinnati Law Review. Prior to law school, Janelle earned her bachelor’s degree in BioRenewable Systems from Penn State University.
