Income tax returns and financial statements contain a significant amount of valuable data which can be used by attorneys in a divorce case. These two sources of information can lead to the identification of previously unidentified assets or sources of income. Counsel can utilize this information to increase assurance that the complete marital estate is accounted for, and income is properly measured. In addition, the income tax returns, and financial statements can prove critical in drafting discovery requests and can lead to the development of strategy for the finances or resolution of a case. This program will review the key line items from income tax returns and financial statements and discuss how those lines can be used in addressing concerns relating to divorce matters.
