Program Summary

Session I - Creating a Sustainable Law Practice: Navigating firm dynamics, client relationships, and business strategies – Jason Caskey

This session will guide attorneys through essential aspects regarding career development, including the differences between managing a legal practice and practicing law, client development and retention strategies, navigation of the realities of working in an organization comprised of attorneys and legal professionals, and strategies regarding the development and maintenance of a sustainable practice and career. Participants will learn considerations affecting an attorney’s approach to building durable client relationships and effective strategies to achieve this goal. This session will also address navigating law firm dynamics, the development of a sustainable long-term business and retirement plans, and other considerations affecting a sustainable practice within a firm (e.g., additional income sources, etc.).

In this session participants will explore the essential strategies for managing and motivating their legal teams while adhering to the highest ethical standards. Focusing on practical leadership skills and ethical supervision, this program will provide actionable insights to help lawyers elevate their practice, foster a positive team culture, and ensure compliance with ethical obligations. Through real-world examples and proven techniques, attendees will leave equipped with the tools to become more effective leaders and trusted legal professionals.

Jason Caskey is a partner in Kutak Rock LLP’s Technology Transactions practice group in Omaha, Nebraska, where he concentrates on intellectual property protection, technology law, commercial transactions, copyrights, technology development and related transactions. With experience leading an in-house legal team and as a litigator, he keeps a pragmatic and practical focus on assisting his clients to close deals while minimizing applicable legal, business and economic risks. Prior to his legal career, Jason worked in marketing communications and business development for tech companies and nonprofits. Jason received his J.D. (Order of the Barristers) from the University of Nebraska College of Law and holds a B.A. in Communication from Santa Clara University. When not lawyering, Jason is an active runner and enjoys playing loud rock music with his band The Fight Dirties, but mostly likely would be found transporting one of his four children to dance training, sports practice, music lessons or Scouting events.
