Speakers

Angel Evan | Stanford University

More than two decades ago, Angel Evan began his career in graphic design, expecting a straightforward path in the commercial arts. After graduating from Suffolk University, he quickly rose through the advertising industry to become a Creative Director, but his success stemmed less from artistic instinct and more from applying analytical thinking. That realization led him to explore subjects like statistics, philosophy, and behavioral economics, eventually drawing him to Data Science—then known as “Data Mining.” Despite not having a STEM background, he completed UC San Diego’s Data Science program, where he discovered a passion for uncovering complex patterns hidden in data and transforming them into meaningful stories. Over the next decade, he built deep expertise in machine learning while tackling diverse business challenges across industries.

As his career progressed, Evan encountered ethical dilemmas in data science projects, which sparked his dedication to AI ethics. Recognizing the growing societal impact of AI, he created and now teaches Ethical Data & AI at Stanford University’s Continuing Studies Program, equipping students with practical frameworks to balance business innovation with ethical responsibility. Currently pursuing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence Ethics at the University of Edinburgh, his academic focus includes algorithmic bias, fairness, and the ethics of autonomous systems. Evan’s journey reflects a lifelong commitment not just to mastering data science but to ensuring its responsible and principled application—embracing what Aristotle called the “Golden Mean,” a balance between progress and ethics.

CX = ROI: Turning Great Service into Sustainable Referrals | 1:30pm – 2:15pm

Client experience is more than good manners—it’s the foundation of sustainable firm growth. This panel brings together leaders who have proven that when client service is done right, it doesn’t just build loyalty, it drives measurable revenue. Panelists will share how their firms connect the dots between client satisfaction, referrals, and profitability, while also exploring the ethical obligations that make great service a professional requirement. Attendees will leave with concrete strategies to turn everyday interactions into long-term growth.

Speakers: Shawn Lehocky (Chief Executive Officer, Pond Lehocky Giordano)
Melissa Graham (Chief Operating Officer, Richard Harris Law Firm)
Ken Hardison (Founder & President, PILMMA)

  • Why client communication is the #1 driver of referrals and repeat business
  • The connection between ethical obligations (ABA Model Rule 1.4) and competitive advantage

  • How to track and measure ROI from client experience investments
  • Real-world examples of firms that scaled referrals and revenue through CX initiatives

Beyond Gut Instinct: Using X + O Data to Improve Outcomes | 2:15pm – 3:00pm

“Beyond Gut Instinct: Using X + O Data to Improve Outcomes” explores how law firms can move past intuition and begin making decisions backed by both operational (O) data and experience (X) data. Panelists will share practical examples of how pairing case metrics with client feedback produces insights that accelerate resolutions, improve satisfaction, and strengthen referral relationships. Attendees will leave with a clear framework for turning raw data into actionable strategies that grow firms and enhance client outcomes.

Speakers: Jeff Robbins (Director of Client Experience, DM Injury Law)
Brian Page (Chief Legal Officer, Trust Guss Injury Lawyers)
John Fritz (Managing Attorney, Fritz Law)

  • Defining Xs & Os: What operational (O) data (case lifecycle, settlement amounts, attorney performance) and experience (X) data (client sentiment, communication effectiveness, satisfaction drivers) look like in practice
  • From Data to Action: Moving from raw data → information → insights → actions that improve case outcomes
  • Business Drivers: How data impacts case velocity, average case value, inventory management, reviews, referrals, and new intake
  • Case Study Example: DM Law’s 401-case analysis showing 65-day faster settlements (24% improvement) with Case Status
  • Key Metrics to Track: Settlement velocity, negotiation efficiency, client communication responsiveness, case complexity scores, touchpoint density, and more
  • Co-Counsel & Referral Implications: Why tracking both X and O data matters beyond your own firm, including co-counsel accountability and referral relationships
  • Building a Playbook: Steps to implement a data-driven framework—setting target outcomes, assigning roles (champion, data wrangler, sponsor), and leveraging tools (CMS for O data, Case Status for X data)

DAY 3: Friday, September 26

Ethical-ish Live: Client Experience-Ish | 9:00am – 10:30am

In this live recording of Ethical-ish, we’ll decode the client journey through both science and story — mapping the SCARF model (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, Fairness) onto the emotional rollercoaster clients experience when they step into the legal system.

From “the normal before” to the shock of the unexpected, clients begin a vulnerable search for answers and must take a trust-leap of faith when hiring counsel. They long for peace of mind and progress toward healing, with hopes of justice and, eventually, a return to normal. Along the way, each SCARF domain is triggered — sometimes as a threat, sometimes as a reward.

Our panel of diverse voices — spanning ethics, AI, small-firm practice, large-firm scale, and non-JD leadership — will unpack how lawyers and firms can recognize these hidden psychological triggers, align them with each stage of the journey, and design client experiences that foster trust, loyalty, and long term reputation.

Speakers: Paul Bamert (Vice President of Product Marketing, Case Status)
Constance Anastopoulo
Angel Evan
Marina Bradley
Ty Robinson

  • The client journey: Exploring the phases clients experience — the normal before, the unexpected, the search, the trust-leap of faith, the peace of mind, the healing, the justice, and the return to normal
  • The SCARF model: How status, certainty, autonomy, relatedness, and fairness shape client perceptions and behavior
  • Ethics in action: Where the ABA Model Rules intersect with client psychology and modern Expectations
  • Technology & AI: How innovation creates both opportunities and threats for trust, autonomy, and communication
  • Small vs. large firm perspectives: Contrasting how different firm models meet (or miss) client needs
  • Beyond satisfaction: Moving from solving cases to creating trust, loyalty, and long-term client relationships
  • The “-ish” factor: Accepting imperfection while still delivering human-centered, ethical experiences

Break | 10:30am – 11:00am

Agentic Workflow: Super powering Your Best Staff Members with AI | 11:00am – 11:45am

This panel explores how forward-thinking firms are harnessing AI to unlock the full potential of their best people. Rather than replacing staff, agentic workflows amplify their impact by automating routine work, freeing top performers to focus on higher-value tasks, and creating new opportunities for growth. Panelists will share real stories from their firms about how AI has shifted workloads, changed staff trajectories, and improved client experience. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for identifying the right people to empower, overcoming resistance to adoption, and designing a balanced human + AI collaboration model that safeguards judgment and ethics while enabling exponential productivity.

Speakers: Chris Keller (Managing Partner, Keller Swan Injury Attorneys), (Chief Legal Officer & Partner, Daniel Stark Injury Law)
Mick Gunter (Chief Operating Officer, Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law)
Tom Giordano (Founding Partner, Pond Lehocky Giordano)

  • Defining “Agentic Workflow” in practice: What it means for law firm leaders and why staff remain central to success
  • Where AI delivers the biggest wins: Real examples of AI reducing workload and unlocking higher-value contributions
  • Super powering staff, not replacing them: Stories of paralegals and team members whose effectiveness grew dramatically with AI support
  • Prioritizing investment: How to identify which staff to empower with AI tools first
  • Change management & buy-in: Overcoming resistance and ensuring AI is viewed as an empowering tool rather than a threat
  • Balancing human judgment & agentic AI: Guardrails, oversight, and ethical safeguards every firm should consider
  • Future vision: What workflows, roles, and client experience will look like in the next 3–5 years as AI becomes fully embedded
  • First practical steps: Where managing partners new to AI should begin
