Program Summary

In June 2023, Texas enacted the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, becoming the eleventh state to pass comprehensive data privacy legislation and continuing the trend of data privacy legislative activity across the United States. Understanding the scope, applicability, and requirements of these state data privacy laws are more crucial than ever for companies with U.S. operations. In this session, we will discuss the scope of the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the duties and obligations imposed on businesses as data controllers or processors, and the personal data rights provided to Texas consumers under the law. We will also understand and compare key provisions of the Texas law with data privacy laws enacted or passed in other states.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Understanding the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act's scope, applicability, and exclusions
  • Data controller and processor duties and obligations
  • Texas consumer rights to personal data
  • Comparison of key provisions with other U.S. state data privacy laws
