Retail employees face potential safety hazards in the workplace daily. One only needs to look at social media feeds to witness customer harassment, violent crime, and accidents involving these employees. Unfortunately, these snapshots shared across social media are not isolated incidents, reported data indicates that bad behavior and crime is increasing at retailers nationwide. Not only does this affect retailers’ bottom lines, but retail employees’ physical and mental health are suffering. Concrete steps will be discussed that retailers can implement to protect employees in the workplace.
